My name’s Carter, I’m an interdisciplinary designer who works to create meaningful and accessible experiences using design systems informed by academic, user-centred, and practice-based research. I have an unsatisfiable curiosity with design, driven by knowing that there's always more to learn, create, research, and practice.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Design (Hons) from York University/Sheridan College in 2016, I've worked as a freelance designer and an in-house designer. I returned to school and completed a Master of Design at York University in 2021.
I have interests in disability studies, typography, type design, and design education. My masters research investigated visualizing experiences of non-visual disabilities, using my tinnitus as a basis for inquiry. I have a slight obsession with drawing weird letters. I do this for fun, for work, and to learn how particular styles and type systems are developed (now and then I take it too far and nobody can read what I make). I have also contributed as a part-time educator in the York University Design department. I take photos now and then too, you can see a few here if you want :)
